Ganesh Baba - Living on Facebook

18.06.10

I think I have never recommended any Facebook page by any other means than becoming a "fan" myself. But this one is different. This is not about recommendation, but about a really curious story that makes for a really interesting reading.

Some of you might have heard of Ganesh Baba who got in touch with western hippies in India as early as the mid sixties. And spread "wild stories about meetings with a small, big-bellied, white-bearded sadhu whi spoke perfect Victorian English, smoked ganja like there was no tomorrow and insisted that everyone around him keep their backs ramrod straight". (Quote from Ganeshbaba.com)

Ganesh Baba was a disciple of the famous Lahiri Mahasaya himself and turned to initiate everybody he met into Kriya Yoga. Later he became a manager of the famous Anandamayi Ma Ashram before he finally entered the ancient order of Naga Sanyasis where he became a Shri Mahant of Anand Akhara.

The venerable Shri Mahant Swami Ganeshananda Saraswati and Giri left his body on November 19th 1987 and entered his Maha Samadhi at Alak Nath Mandir in Bareilly, a small town in Northern India.

And yet, he has a dynamic Facebook page with a fast growing number of friends. There he still spreads his "crazy wisdom". He must be the first human being who left his body to live on in Facebook.

Mind you: this is not a "fan-page" but a personal page. The page is maintained by Eve Neuhaus who wrote a book on Babaji and explained in a message to Sigi (Thank you for this hint, Schätzle!): "Ganesh Baba would not have liked me, or anyone, to impersonate him outright, but he doesn't seem to have any objection to his spirit and teachings living on."
And they do: not only on Facebook, but also on Twitter.
Jay Ganesh Babaji!
